Ringdroid – an alternative to sharetones in android OS

Industrious cell phone users can always create their own ringtones, and lazy ones can buy them packaged. Sharetones 1.0 beta for Android, released to the Android Market on Tuesday, falls somewhere in between.

The premise is simple, but intriguingly computational. You create ringtones from songs you already own on your phone. Instead of asking you to do the tedious editing legwork, Sharetones will send your songs to a database of over 65,000 tones and return several options that someone else has created. One ringtone may capture the intro instrumentals; another may clip the chorus.

The key here is that Sharetones isn’t shuttling any actual files to and fro. It’s sending a musical ‘recipe’ based off of another user’s edit, which tells your song where to start and end to form the ringtone. Once Sharetones receives the timestamp instructions, it will rip a ringtone from your own file on the fly–including fade-ins and fade-outs–and will save it as a separate MP3. It will save the metadata ‘recipe,’ too.

Since Sharetones deals in formulas rather than files, it can duck the usual legal tar pits of ownership, licensing, and fair use. But that doesn’t mean Sharetones is free. It’s still providing the service of quickly carving out a ringtone for your use. The app won’t charge a thing on Android throughout the beta period, but after that it’ll cost you $1.49 for 3 recipes, $2.49 for unlimited use for a month, or 7.49 for unlimited use for a year.

Its ringdroid….. you need a T-mobile G1 handset for installing and using ringdroid.

Orkut pics enlarger – greasemonkey script

hey guys… i’m back….

last day i put up a post on greasemonky enabling users to have local themes for orkut pages. but there was a catch i forgot to mention. the more complex the theme becomes the harder it becomes for the user to see the small pictures in orkut. ie the image icons in the scrap book, community page, updates etc. in order to bypass that problem today we are looking upon another greasemonkey script known as orkut pics enlarger. what it basically does is that all small pictures in orkut with their bigger counterpart.

As per the authors claim “it doesnot resize the image locally but it fetches the larger image directly from the server“

that means using this image will not result in any blur or disfiguration…

thats great … isnt it ???

anyways lets get to our point … how to get it….

for that first ofcourse you will have to be on mozilla firefox. If not download firefox here……..

After having firefox the next requirement is greasemonkey plug in for firefox.

After having everything set up we can now move on to install our picture enlarger.

cooliris – a really cool addon to mozilla firefox

hey there.. today i want to introduce to you one of the coolest addons for mozilla firefox.. its a virtual 3D wall for image/ video viewing. it allows you to navigate through online photos and videos as in a 3D wall. this is one of the most innovative ideas in the field of picture viewing.

New to this version is support for displaying Cooliris within tabbed windows, sharable URLs, and greater support for Flickr information and MySpace content.

At one time Cooliris completely took over your computer screen with its wall of images and movies. While this was a beautiful way to view this content, Cooliris blocked access to other content. After that you have downloaded and installed the plugin you might have to restart firefox.

After the installation is complete and when the browser restarts you can find an extra tab automatically appearing with the new session. Thats the homepage of cooliris. There is also an icon appearing in the desktop from where you can launch cooliris. what it actually does is … it simply starts firefox with a cooliris tab with it.

there are different channels given in the left hand side of the cooliris tab so as to make the navigation a lot more easier. the different channels available are listed there. it includes music, games. news etc etc etc…..

every photo can be viewed either by enlarging them or by toggling to the full screen mode.

As if the are not enough cooliris also provides with a cool online store from where the purchase of a variety of items are possible. these range from DVD’s to electronic gadgets…. the store can be accessed from the “shopping” tab on the navigation bar.

Need a personal wall ???? cooliris has an answer….!!!! go to the favourites tab and register for an account. use this account for maintaining you own personalised wall and you can have email updates as well…!!! soo cool…uh…!!!

wanna see you own photos on a 3D wall without uploading to the external servers ? come on guys…. cooliris is built in for that.. just go to the sirectory in which your lovely photos are saved under the my computer tab and enjoy watching them….!!!!

greasemonkey and custom orkut themes

Ok as for now I am planning to talk to you about adding themes to orkut.

Orkut dosent support as far as I know external themes. Ie they don’t allow other themes from outside their servers to be uploaded. They give only permission to use those themes provided by them

So what should we do….!!!!! If they don’t allow us to upload our favorite themes then that dosnt mean that we cannot view stuff in the way we want. It’s truly said that we can see any thing in the way we want. The only thing is that we should look to them in that way… anyway leave that crap…!!!! U know I am pretty like this… any way lets get into the matter . there is this thing known as greasemonkey…. Don’t laugh at its name … this monkey is really pretty help full. Ok let me give you some expert advice… oh by the way you need mozilla firefox running on your system…. If you don’t have it just download and install it… its great…!

“Greasemonkey is a Firefox extension that allows you to write scripts that alter the web pages you visit. You can use it to make a web site more readable or more usable. You can fix rendering bugs that the site owner can’t be bothered to fix themselves. You can alter pages so they work better with assistive technologies that speak a web page out loud or convert it to Braille. You can even automatically retrieve data from other sites to make two sites more interconnected.

Greasemonkey by itself does none of these things. In fact, after you install it, you won’t notice any change at all… until you start installing what are called “user scripts”. Each user script can target a specific page, a specific site, or a group of sites. A user script can do anything you can do in Javascript. now tht you know what is greasemonkey go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748

and get greasemonkey from there. Add that addon to the mozilla firefox that you are using. You may have to restart your browser. Now you have two choices. Either you can have a pre prepared theme directly from the web or you can create one of your own.

In case of pre prepared themes its easy business.. just google it.. use keywords like greasemonkey & orkut themes. That wouls do it . but there is always a catch… only run scripts that you trust… otherwise there can be a lot of privacy issues…!!!! U know what I mean…!!!!

Instead if you wanna create themes with custom photos then I would suggest you to learn javascript…!!! No…!!! don’t worry.. I was kidding..!!! there is always shortcuts in cyber world…! So just go to http://www.darkorkut.com/themes

And give a valid url or upload a photo. Proceed to the next page and hit install theme.

Make sure that the greasemonkey is enabled. the steps to enable greasemonky is given below. If you get a bunch of codes instead of a pop up window when you hit the install button then most probably greasemonkey is not enabled.

If greasemonkey is enabled then you should get a pop up window like this….

hit the instal button … and thats it….!!!!

Now move on and hit the refresh button in your orkut profile and muhaaaa……….!!!!!

That would install the theme locally. Which means this theme is only visible from the host system only. Anyway that dosent matter rite….!!! Why should we care about what others think about us…!!! Its all what we think about ourselves …!!!!

By the way to manage the greasemonkey feature go to mozilla firefox > tools > greasemonkey > check or uncheck “Enabled”.

If you want to uninstall any scripts just highlight them and hit the uninstall button here.

Manage the scripts and get your heck outta there…. Oh….by the way if you have multiple themes the last one in the list works….

And a word of advice….. only run scripts from trusted sources….

hey dear……

its been a long time that i was thinkin of starting a blog. but i donno why i just left it behind me.

its also true that i had started two three blogs but couldnt carry it along with me…

so what i think now is that before i leave i will be writting hopefully daily…!!!!!

so there should be something to write rite ????
